Virginia Tech Apartment Rentals

If you are either attending or going to attend Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, housing will be a tight commodity. Rental apartments are not easy to come by and much of the on-campus housing provided by the university is full well ahead of time. Off-campus rentals give you more variety of floor plans and bedrooms, but availability is tight as well. Apartment complexes like Jefferson Apartments (listed below) even have shuttles that take you back and forth to the campus which can be a real timesaver if you don't own a car. The Hokies of Virginia Tech, are a school with over 25,000 full-time students and your best bet is to contact on campus housing HERE as soon as you know you will be attending the university. In order to save money, try getting a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment or house off-campus and share it with other students who are going to VTech as well. In our experience of finding student housing in Blacksburg, we have had the best results working with a property management company that handles multiple apartments, condos, house, etc. They can offer the biggest selection and give you the most options. Don't pin your hopes on finding the perfect 2 bedroom apartment in your favorite community because the rental market fills up fast in this town. Try using a company like TnT Property Management or BCR Property Management in your search and let them come up with a place for you. Their websites usually list the latest availability and you can quickly find what you are looking for. Another one of our favorite property managements companies in the Blacksburg area is Raines Property Management - with dozens of 1, 2, and 3 bedroom condos, house, and apartments are lined for rental services. Most of their units are sold out in advance, so be sure to inquire well ahead of the school year. Many of the leases run from June or July through the year, so don't wait until August to land a good spot. Rents are very reasonable in Blacksburg ($350/1 bedroom compared to $1400/1 bedroom in places like Santa Barbara, CA) so your housing bill shouldn't be too bad. Some property management firms are less likely to rent houses to undergraduates, so be sure to clarify your class standing when asking about the rentals. Apartments usually have no problem renting to younger students, but you may need your parents or legal guardian to sign off on some paperwork in case damages are incurred on the rental unit.



  • The Mill at Blacksburg Offers 1, 2, and 3 bedroom floor plans. Located at 1811 Grayland Street, Blacksburg, VA 24060. The community is close to Virginia Tech campus, VMR Vet School, and VCOM. The apartment complex is on the BT bus line making for convenient access to all your needs.
  • Jefferson Apartments (Free Shuttle to Virginia Tech Campus) This complex is located at 614 Washington Street SE, Blacksburg, VA 24060. 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units to choose from with laundry facilities on site.
  • Foxridge Apartments Homes (Student Housing that is minutes from VTech) Just 2 miles from the campus, this community offers 1-4 bedrooms, 2 pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, and even kids playgrounds for the parents in the crowd. You can find them on the map at 750 Hethwood Blvd., 100G Blacksburg,VA 24060. The overhead map on their websites give you a good birds-eye view of where all the amenities are located.

  • Chase Management - With over 12 apartment communities just in Blacksburg, you will get to pick from your favorite. Great for graduate students at Virginia Tech or Radford. They carry efficiency apartments all the way up to rental houses if you are looking for a neighborhood feel. CMG Leasing (they go by that name) has over 1000 apartment homes in the Blacksburg, Radford and Christiansburg areas to select from. Their website is loaded with information, leasing terms, rental rates, and contact information for each complex.
  • The Village at Blacksburg - Just 5 minutes to campus on the bus route, this community offers up plenty. High speed internet connections, washer and dryer in each unit, tanning beds on site, a fitness center, and much more. Apply online for the next availability that opens up.
  • Roanoke Street Apartments - 5 blocks to campus and downtown Blacksburg, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments to choose from, ethernet connections available, and cable TV in every room. If you have a car, there is off street parking with a permit.
  • Smith's Landing Luxury Apartments - Opening in 2008, these new rentals will be available as 1, 2, or 3 bedroom units and rents start at $725 for a single. The 3 bedroom units will top out at $1350/month. Right on Plantation Road so an excellent location for convenience to campus. Washer and dryer in every apartment, wireless high speed internet and great floor plans.
