The Radcliffe House on 61 Vanderhorst Street is just 2 blocks from MUSC and CofC. They offer 1 bedrooms for $700 and efficiences for $600. 40 Bee Street Flats is nearby and they offer some really nice 2 bedroom units - perfect for shared housing and convenient as you are within walking distance to the colleges. Another great spot is down on Broad Street along the westside of town - Sergeant Jasper Apartments. There are views of the Ashley River, city skyline, and harbor areas. You get laundry facilities, 24 hour fitness center, off-street parking, free water and electricity, and there is a clubhouse. Downtown rents range from over $2000/month for a 2 bedroom unit in the French Quarter to $1200 for a 1 bedroom on Wentworth Street. Studios are $700+ at places like the Courtyards at 411 Meeting Street. Location is great.

We always recommend that you try to contact a few of the property management companies and get a feel for their listings. Ask questions about location, parking, how close are they public transportation, are pets allowed, floorplans, lease agreement, applications, and whatever else is important to you. Checking out at least 5 rentals is a good idea before making any decisions. That way you can compare key features and get a good idea of what really matters to you in an apartment or house for rent.
