Boulder Apartment Rentals
Boulder, CO is a great college town with lots of housing choices for students, young professionals and families. The closer you get to the University of Colorado campus, there are plenty of options for college students in terms of apartments for rent. University Village at Boulder Creek and Sterling University Peaks Apartments are very close to campus - within walking distance to most buildings. Keep in mind it can snow in the winter so walking may be your best option to get around campus. The selection of apartment complexes in the downtown area of Boulder was not that great, but working with a property management company (see below) could help you in this area. If commuting into town is something you will consider, then check out the outlying region with cities like Lafayette, Broomfield, and Louisville. Rents will definitely be cheaper in those cities, but you'll have to take public transportation or drive into Boulder if that is where your work or school is. Housing Helpers is a nice service that "connects people with places" and lists dozens of studios, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom units in the Boulder area. Rent for a studio is about $625, while a two bedroom luxury apartment can be closer to $1000+/month. Check out multiple places before commiting to anything.
There's nothing worse than wasting your time searching for a place to live. We have all done it once in our lives, but you should learn over time that contacting a bunch of apartment complexes isn't always the best way to go about it. We suggest using a property management company so that they can do most of the work for you. Give them your requirements for a place - location, floorplan, rental budget, etc. Most property management companies have dozens of listings in a variety of locations around town. You'll be able to see apartments, rental condos, houses for rent, and more. If shared housing is what you want, they will be able to accommodate you. Often, if they don't have anything that fits your needs, they can refer you to another property management group. The key here is that they tend to have lots of listings versus a single apartment community that may only have a few openings. Always ask about lease terms, are they pet friendly, do they offer covered parking, is there public transportation nearby, etc. After you have contacted a few of these companies, set up an appointment to look at a few properties and see how the location and rent fit into your lifestyle. Some people prefer downtown loft living while others like homes with yards in the suburbs. Mock Property Management and Boulder Property Mgmt are two solid firms with excellent websites.
