Virginia Tech University students flood this town with applications each summer and the most desirable spots are often gone long before the school year starts. You can venture out to the outlying towns like Shawsville, Radford, or Christiansburg. Within the town of Blacksburg there are apartments like Windsor Hills and Terrace View that get good reviews and Stonegate Apartments is a newer community that has nice amenities. The Village at Blacksburg is considered great for student living and Foxridge and Hethwood Apartments are just to the west of campus. Jefferson Apts are closer to downtown - a little older units, but rent is relatively cheap. Shared housing is always a nice option when looking to cut down on expenses and Craigslist has some solid listings in this category. If you prefer a condo or house, we suggest trying Blacksburgrent.com - their website is constantly updated with new listings. Rents for 2 bedroom condos are about $750 while single bedroom units go for $575. Be sure to get your application in early as the best apartments fill up fast.

Blacksburg is no different than other small college towns where rental housing is tight and you need to act fast. The benefit of using a property management company is that they have a variety of rental options amongst their listings giving you more choices and selection. Ask the representative about lease terms, pets, utilties, parking, maintenance, etc. The biggest complaints from most tenants that rent apartments is that things are too noisy and small repairs never get done. Check with online reviews of specific complexes whenever possible.
