Berkeley Apartment Rentals

The town of Berkeley in Northern California has a storied past and many people still flock to this community for it's "alternative" feel. The UC Berkeley campus pulls in 1000's of new students each year that need housing in and around the university. Where is the best place to live? Streets like Telegraph, University, and Shattuck are very popular spots when looking for apartments and rental houses. Even if you are commuting in from other cities like San Francisco, Oakland, or Alameda, there is a convenient BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station right in downtown Berkeley. Apartments for rent on Shattuck include places like Hillside Village and University Park. Touriel Apartments is on University and student housing can be found closer to Telegraph Ave. at the Americana Apartments - just 4 blocks from campus. Equity Residential owns 7 apartment buildings in Berkeley and rents start at roughly $1900 for a 2 bedroom and just around $1500 for a single bedroom unit. Yes, rent is expensive in Berkeley so if you are on a budget expect to do a shared housing situation with other students or young professionals. The good news is that many of apartments we saw are newer as demand has stayed high over the years and developers have turned older buildings into brand new housing. Stadium Place is a great off-campus housing option for Berkeley students - they offer studios, 1 and 2 bedroom apartment units.

Property Management Rentals in Berkeley:

If you are having a hard time finding a place to rent in Berkeley, CA, then we suggest you work with a property management company. They usually offer a variety of rental properties including condos, townhomes, duplexes, shared housing, apartments, and homes. Everest Properties has studios that start below $1000, 1 bedroom units for $1100+, and 2 bedrooms for $2200. K and S Company is another great property management group that has dozens of listings in and around the downtown Berkeley region. We saw several houses for rent in Emeryville, Alameda, Berkeley and Oakland. Make sure you ask pertinent questions when calling on any property - things like - parking, utitities, floor plans, how far to bus lines, lease terms, condition of unit, etc. No sense in wasting your time looking at potential rentals that would never have worked in the first place. Property management companies are very good at taking your list of requirements for a place to live (rent, location, # of bedrooms, etc.) and matching up one of their available inventory for you to look at. We suggest contacting several of these companies (see them listed on this page) and setup an appointment to see some of their units for rent. Often they are a better choice than just contacting apartment complexes one by one.
