Ann Arbor Apartment Rentals

Whevener you have a major college town like Ann Arbor, Michigan, housing can be a tight commodity. The Univesity of Michigan sits right in the heart of Ann Arbor and has a student population of over 40,000. That's a lot of housing needs for college age kids. The goods news is that the town has lots of great apartment complexes in and around the campus. Young professionals can find loft living in the downtown area and those with families will be able to get 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, condos or rental houses a little further out. The Highland Apartments are near the North Campus and have bus lines that run to the other parts of the university. McKinley.com is a great resource for those looking for off-campus housing as they have several apartment complexes in the surrounding area of U of M. The Sterling 411 Lofts are on East Washington and reviews for these apartments are very positive. Nob Hill Apartments are closer to the big stadium. Tower Plaza and University Towers are close to the University of Michigan, but you will pay a premium for living in the highrise apartment buildings. Rents can exceed $1000 for a studio - not a bargain for students. Post Realty Properties lists 1 bedrooms for $1000+ and 2 bedroom units for $1700 or more. Ann Arbor has apartments for rent, but you'll need to look good and hard to find a place that is really affordable. We suggest going further out of town if you want a cheaper rent. Some people commute in from Ypsilanti, Northfield, Chelsea, or Canton.

Here are some more resources to aid in your apartment shopping:
Apartment Inspection Checklist - take this on your walkthrus and jot down notes.
Avoid Renters Remorse: parking, noise, etc. Check this list.
Rules for Renting a Condo: Condos are a little different..
Your Credit Report: What is shows, what to look for.

Property Management Rentals in Ann Arbor

Ok, we've all scoured the internet or want ads for apartments to rent. Craigslist offers a good selection and a chance to preview some of the rental apartments online before actually spending the time going out to see them in person. We suggest that if you are spinning your wheels with no results, consider using a property management company like Campus Management or or ISSA Properties. You'll find a one stop shopping place for dozens of rental houses, luxury apartments, and 2 bedroom condo units. We have tried to include a decent list of property management companies on this page - combined they probably have over 1000 properties within the Ann Arbor area to choose from. Contact at least one of these places and give them your requirements and perhaps they can find a match. There job is renting out the places in their inventory and they can work for you too. Reviews show they help young professionals, families, and college students locate housing. Set an appointment up with one of their managers to look at several properties so you can compare location, price, size, etc. Our advice is to get started well before the school season begins since when August and September roll around most of the quality apartments for rent are already booked and unavailable until next year. Be prepared with first and last months rent and any other financial documents you may need to secure an apartment - some of them are reserved the same day they become available.
